about
Temping Bowling was written about the monotony of a previous job. I think a lot of the time people think hard work and rewards go hand in hand but quite often that’s not the case. I was playing in bands, working 9-6 and had a pretty dismal boss. I started as a temp and before I knew it I’d been there for over a year. Ultimately most employers look at their staff as expendable and that was evident to me when Covid hit. I wrote this song as an angry riposte and to poke fun at the hierarchal systems people try to exist within. In a job full of daft training sessions, false promises and countless ego’s it’s hard not to be cynical and go full Bukowski ‘post office’ style.
lyrics
Two foot nothing, oh he's something
A right piece of work like a back office gremlin
When I started this job I was only fucking temping bowling
Now I've been here three years, it's so dull it could bring you to tears
Directors like Brent on speed and I'm losing the will to live
Stuck at this desk, I don't want to end up like the rest of them
It ain't my company it ain't my money it ain't my dream
I couldn't give a fuck if it crashes and burns, in fact I hope it does
because what does it mean?
It means nothing at all, it means nothing at all, it means nothing at all, it means nothing at all to me
Nothing at all, it means nothing at all, it means nothing at all, it means nothing at all to me
And don't act like your doing me a favour, this ain't that far off slave labour
And don't expect me to do two hours more, I'd sooner walk straight out your fucking door
And another bit of pointless training, this shit really shouldn't need explaining
And he's up at the blackboard with his marker and he's starting to do my brain in
Because it ain't my company it ain't my money it ain't my dream
I couldn't give a fuck if it crashes and burns, in fact I hope it does
because what does it mean?
It means nothing at all, it means nothing at all, it means nothing at all, it means nothing at all
It means nothing at all, it means nothing at all, it means nothing at all, it means nothing at all
Engage in company politics, I watch you tearing each other to bits
Hard work don't equal the rewards and I learnt that a very long time ago
And yes men how far will you go?
Till you lose your dignity and you realise your surplus to requirements
Trying to scale this hierarchy
Because it ain't my company it ain't my money it ain't my dream
I couldn't give a fuck if it crashes and burns, in fact I hope it does
because what does it mean?
It means nothing at all, it means nothing at all, it means nothing at all, it means nothing at all
It means nothing at all, it means nothing at all, it means nothing at all, it means nothing at all
Nothing at all, nothing at all, nothing at all, your yes men your yes men
It means nothing at all, it means nothing at all, it means nothing at all
I couldn't care for your process or due diligence
